I myself use a different ripping tool (XLD) and I believe it uses the Lame mp3 engine in it to do mp3 encoding. When you rip a CD you are using iTunes to encode the track (in fact if you wish you can disable encoding). When you rip/encode the CD in iTunes to save it on the computer it is saving those labels but those tend to be the basic ones such as album names etc. If you see track names it is getting the labels from an online database. It is a special audio CD format and actually contains no labels of any kind. Regular audio CDs such as the kind you buy in a store are all encoded to a standard designated 35+ years ago. When you insert a CD in the drive the computer just reads it as raw data. because as far as i know for iTunes encoding, it is only seen on purchased music, is it possible for others besides iTunes like a record company who made the CD to encode with iTunes. so is this encoding some sort of issue or glitch or is it harmless.
most of my music is purchased from iTunes but a small portion of it is from CD. the other 2 formats i listed are found on some of the albums from CDs in my library. the purchased songs are encoded with iTunes and some of the other albums from CDs are also encoded with iTunes. not all my songs are encoded with something. There is defintely a loss of high-end with this setting, but there is little to no distortion and unless you have heard the original, you will barely know the difference with this setting in many cases. Or a smaller sized version of a radio show you might want to post for people who are not particular about having it in stereo. I have a nice sized collection of old-time radio shows I have encoded and reencoded using this setting. resample 8 -V3 -vbr-new -q0 -B16 -lowpass 15.4 -athaa-sensitivity 1 The space saved is amazing and I can't tell the difference between this tweaked VBR setting and other higher bitrate VBR imports. I use this all the time for CD importing or MP3 conversion.
